NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

National Volunteer Week is a special time set aside in April each year to honor and recognize Canadians who donate time and energy to their fellow citizens. National Volunteer Week also raises awareness of the vital contribution volunteers make to our communities and our country.

VIQ supports our non-profit agencies to helps recognize volunteers across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.  Activities include:

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MUGGING
Nominated volunteers are surprised during National Volunteer Week by VIQ, Darrell Smith of Harbourfront Wealth Management Inc Inc. and Mark Philbin of 95.5Hits FM with a thank you and a mug full of goodies provided by Donini Chocolate.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST BELLEVILLE
Volunteer and Information Quinte with Darrell Smith of Harbourfront Wealth Management Inc. hosts a breakfast in honour of the National Volunteer Week. Area Agencies(both members and non-members) are invited to bring their volunteers to celebrate and be recognized for their contributions.  It’s the perfect opportunity to say thank you to the amazing volunteers in our communities whose efforts ensure we have access to recreational, cultural and social programs that matter. From students to seniors and new comers, volunteers are drawn from all wakes of life. All sharing a common desire to make a difference in the lives of their families, friends, neighbours and communities.

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast is also the venue for our Annual Volunteer Awards Presentations.  Our awards include:

RUTH BURROWS
The Ruth Burrows Volunteer Award was established in 1990 to recognize Ruth Burrows, an exemplary community volunteer. Since then, the award has been presented annually to an individual who has made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to the community.

MAURICE ROLLINS COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR YOUTH
The Maurice Rollins Community Leadership Award for Youth annually honors an outstanding young leader in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Voluntary organizations, community groups, schools and individuals may nominate a young person aged 16-24 who has made an exceptional contribution. The award was established to recognize Maurice Rollins, a visionary and leader in our community.

BUSINESS PERSON VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION AWARD (SPONSORED BY DARRELL SMITH)
The Business Person Appreciation Volunteer award was created in 2011. The award is presented annually to recognize an outstanding leader that has continued to make an exceptional contribution to our community.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
The Wellings of Picton is pleased to announce the launch of the fourth annual Prince Edward County Volunteer Recognition Awards in partnership with Volunteer & Information Quinte.
A recognition luncheon and award ceremony will be held at the Wellings of Picton on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 – for tickets, please contact Rachel Henry at 613-707-6552 or rhenry@wellingsofpicton.com or visit the Wellings of Picton at 15 Wellings Drive, Picton.
Nominations are open to those who meet the following criteria:
• Nominees must have been engaged in volunteer activities for a minimum of one year to benefit the community within Prince Edward County.
• Those who have received compensation for their time are not eligible.
• Self-nominations are not eligible.
