• Gleaners Food Bank is seeking volunteers to pack food boxes, run the café, assist in warehouse and assist drivers with pick ups. Orientation and training provided.
• Various agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties are seeking volunteer drivers. Both long and short distance drivers are needed to transport individuals to medical and doctor appointments, treatments and necessity shopping. Mileage reimbursement varies with each agency.
• Links to Learning Resource Centre is seeking volunteers to assist children with reading by following a set curriculum. They are looking for confident people who can work independently or in a team and interact with children in a positive and friendly way. Expectation is to commit to a once-weekly session with a child for a period of 6 months minimum. Activity is Mondays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently seeking volunteers for a variety of positions offered at Ribfest on August 12 to August 14. Positions include 50/50 sales, drink station, cleaning venue, raffles ticket sales, security positions and more.
• Community Development Council of Quinte are in need of volunteer drivers and driver assistants for the Good Food Box program. This position includes some heavy lifting, driving a cube van once a month on the third Wednesday of each month. Volunteer packers are also required.
• The Regent Theatre is seeking volunteers who can sell tickets using a computerized system, answer phones, provide information and to work in the concession stand selling popcorn, drinks and other goodies. Ushering and taking tickets at shows, greeting patrons and showing them to their seat.
• VON is seeking volunteer visitors to offer support and social interaction to isolated individuals through regular friendly visits at the client’s home encouraging active and independent living. minimum commitment of one hour per week. Training and support is provided.
• The YMCA requires Volunteer Membership Host, this position is responsible for greeting and welcoming participants to the facility, respond to member inquiries in a friendly and welcoming manner, present “housekeeping info” to participants/members, i.e. class times, hand out copies of schedules/program guides, provide new members with a tour of the facility, and keep lobby area tidy.
• Victim Services is seeking volunteers to be on call to Emergency Services in Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington Counties. Volunteers provide on scene emotional and practical assistance and referrals to community agencies. All victims are treated with dignity, respect, compassion and empathy. Mandatory 40 hours of training must be completed.
• Quinte Humane Society volunteers are needed to walk dogs and socialize cats and to help with feeding and cleaning. Clerical positions are available or assist with fundraising events.
• BGH Auxiliary will be hosting an information session on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. regarding volunteer opportunities. Come out to meet their volunteers and learn more about the numerous volunteer positions available.
• Alternatives for Women in Prince Edward County is seeking Board Members who are skilled in not-for-profit fund development, proposal writing and real estate-housing, appraisal and property development. Meetings are monthly, the board of directors provides leadership in establishing the priorities and direction of the agency.
• Belmont Long Term Care is seeking volunteers who can help with meal assistance, portering residents to and from their rooms, assisting with activities such as crafts, bingo, outings, reading groups, and special events. Volunteers can also do one on one visits, reading, knitting, etc. volunteer any day of the week between 8am to 8pm
• Belleville Bibles For Missions Thrift Store is looking for volunteers to work in the thrift store to do receiving, sorting, pricing, stocking shelves and cashiers. They are also seeking volunteer board members and individuals to sit on the fundraising committee.
